FAQs

How long will it take to switch my service over?

The process is very much like setting up a new bank account. Once the account is created, and your equipment is installed or reprogrammed, you begin saving money. From the time we submit our application to the time when you are accepting payments at your new low rates can be as little as one week.

How do I discontinue my current service without an interruption?

You will continue to use your current processor until your installation is completed. At that time your transactions will automatically begin processing through your new account. Check with your processor for their requirements to terminate. They may charge a termination fee, (we do not) or ask for advance notice of cancellation. In this case you will simply cease processing with them, but pay any monthly fees agreed to in your contract until the account is closed.

Will I have to buy new terminals?

There is a relatively small number of terminals that are used for credit card transactions. Consequently, many can be reprogrammed to work with a new processor. With business technology constantly changing and improving, it is not unusual for our new customers to find that updating their equipment makes sense. We work with the top manufacturers of hardware and offer their solutions a very competitive prices. As with all our services, we work with you to find the right equipment based on your needs.

What E-commerce systems is Desormais compatible with?

We work with Authorize.net, Paytrace, DataCap, USAePay, and Verosa. There are many other e-commerce systems that use these providers as well.

Who do I call if I have a problem?

You can call your processor. (link to resources page?) Or for technical problems please consider calling us first so we can facilitate a solution. See ”Contact Us”

How do I get a copy of a past statement?

Each of our partners maintains a web portal where you can find all kinds of information on your account. Batches, deposits, monthly statements, and much more are all a few clicks away. If you’ve forgotten where to go, or lost track of your login credentials, give us a call, we’re here to help!

How long does it take to receive our funds??

Each of our partners operates on one or more unique banking/computer platforms. Depending on the requirements and capabilities of each platform, funding is deposited on the next business day, or the second business day. Processing typically doesn’t happen on Sundays, so weekend deposits can take an extra day. Talk with us about what the options are for your account, and see our blog on what the financial implications of next day funding really are.

How do I complete my PCI Compliance?

PCI compliance is required by the card associations to safeguard cardholder data. The way you accept cards will determine the process; this is different for terminals connecting over a phone line, an internet connection, through a point of sale system, etc. Completion of an annual compliance questionnaire is common to all methods. Others require periodic security scans. Let us guide you through the process so that you stay safe and secure in your handling of customer information.

What determines if a PIN or signature is required?

Several factors determine whether a customer will be asked to enter a PIN number with their debit card (the US doesn’t yet have PIN numbers with credit cards, as is the case in other regions.) First, it’s an option that may or make economic sense for your organization as you can read in our blog. Second, the equipment you’re using plays a part. For example, if you’re using a point of sale system, the capability to take PIN numbers may not be open to you. We carefully evaluate the economics of this choice for you, and discuss the options with you.

What POS systems are compatible with Desormais?

We sell several different point of sale systems, and can integrate payment terminals with many others. Talk to us first if you’re considering installing a new POS. There are pitfalls and costs that can make these systems MUCH more expensive than they initially appear to be.

There seem to be multiple models for pricing. Which one is best and how do they differ?

The pricing model known as “Interchange Plus” is the hands-down winner on this question. You’ll find confirmation of this all over the internet from writers on the topic of payment processing. Interchange plus pricing is the only model we offer at Desormais.

Can I add a fee to my credit card transactions to cover my processing costs?

The answer is, “It depends.” Some states allow what’s known as “surcharging,” others do not. On top of this, the card associations have VERY specific requirements that organizations must follow before they are allowed to add a charge for processing card transactions. The consequences of doing this the wrong way are severe: you could be barred from accepting cards altogether. We’re happy to let you know what the possibilities are for your location, lay out the requirements, and put a plan into action for you, if appropriate. The benefits can be huge – effectively, zero-cost processing.
